Premier League Title Race 2024: Liverpool Lead as Odds Shift in Thrilling Three-Way Battle

Liverpool are the new Premier League title favourites, according to the latest odds from top sports betting sites, following their 2-1 comeback victory against Brighton. Mo Salah’s 65th-minute goal not only secured victory for the Reds but also positioned them as the favourites for this season’s title.

Brighton initially took an unexpected lead at Anfield, courtesy of Danny Welbeck’s stunning strike, only for Luiz Diaz to level the game 25 minutes later. The victory allowed Liverpool to overtake Arsenal at the top of the league table just before the Gunners’ clash with Manchester City at the Etihad.

The much-anticipated clash between mentor Pep Guardiola and protégé Mikel Arteta ended in a lacklustre 0-0 draw, leaving Liverpool as the biggest beneficiaries of Sunday’s Premier League action.

With nine games remaining, Liverpool lead the pack with 67 points, two ahead of Arsenal and three ahead of Manchester City.

Who Has the Easiest Fixture List?

When we look at the remaining fixtures, Liverpool appear to have the advantage with arguably the best run-in out of the three teams. Their most challenging games include Spurs at Anfield and trips to Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Klopp’s side must also navigate a potentially problematic Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, a fixture that proved decisive in another close title race five years ago when Marco Silva’s Everton held the Reds to a goalless draw late in the campaign.

However, these are all winnable fixtures for Liverpool and having survived the worst of their injury crises, Klopp will be confident of getting the business done now most of his regular starters are starting to regain fitness.

Manchester City’s run-in also appears favourable, with their most challenging games being against Aston Villa and Tottenham.

Their trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where they are yet to score a Premier League goal, could prove tricky. And while most of their remaining fixtures look winnable, City have drawn two of their last two in the league (and three of their last six), suggesting they’re going off form at the most crucial juncture.

Additionally, they are no longer blowing smaller teams apart like earlier in the season, suggesting that they could face hiccups during their run-in.

Striker Erling Haaland has looked off the pace in recent games and will need to start firing once again if City are to win an unprecedented fourth Premier League title on the bounce.

Arsenal probably face the toughest end to the season of the three title chasers. The Gunners travel to Tottenham and Manchester United in their final two away games of the season. They also face a trip to Brighton and have tricky ties at home against Champions League chasing Aston Villa and London rivals Chelsea.

If the Gunners are to win a first title in 20 years, they really will have to do it the hard way.

Who will win the Premier League Title?

All three teams are in great form as we approach the climax. Arsenal have eight wins from their last nine games, Liverpool nine from their last 11, and City nine from their last 12.

They are all also well placed to progress in Europe, with all three having winnable quarter-final ties in the Champions League and Europa League (Liverpool). Therefore, none of the three can claim to suffer from fixture congestion, although City are still in the FA Cup.

However, it is hard to argue against Liverpool. They have the benefit of a favourable fixture list, and Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure will provide an emotional boost, driving the team to hand him a perfect send-off. Additionally, the Reds have their destiny in their hands – win all their games, and they will be league champions.

City, meanwhile, have proven over the last six seasons that they are at their best at this stage of the season. While they may appear to have gone off the boil recently, they have the experience to take advantage of any Liverpool slip-ups.

Can Arsenal Defy Their Premier League Title Odds?

Arsenal, despite facing the most challenging end to the season, have shown resiliency and growth this season, having collapsed at exactly this point last term when they led the league for much of the campaign.

So far, the Gunners have shown a repeat is far from likely, and they will end the season unbeaten against City and Liverpool, beating both at home and drawing away, another testament to how much Arteta’s side have grown.

Previous concerns over their ability to create and score goals have been handled admirably, with the Gunners netting 33 times and conceding just three goals during their eight-game winning streak.

They’re also through to their first Champions League quarter-final since 2010, adding perspective to how far Arteta’s side has come. The Gunners have passed every test thrown their way this season, so it wouldn’t be surprising if their name is etched onto the Premier League trophy at the end of the season.

What is certain is that with just nine games remaining, the 2023-24 Premier League title race is guaranteed to go down to the wire, with odds for the winner likely to shift dramatically until the very last match.
