What can I bet on online?

Visiting any sports betting site, we will find in its menu a list of the categories in which it accepts bets. Usually at the top is the most popular sport in the country, namely football, followed by basketball and tennis.

But these are not the only ones, as there are many other sports that one can bet on. From handball, volleyball and water polo, to darts, snooker and cricket.

Motor sports also receive a fairly large volume of bets, with Formula 1 dominating the genre. In addition, seasonal events, such as the Olympic Games, also attract the attention of many spectators (and consequently bettors).

What are special bets

One of the reasons that the betting options has grown so much, is the fact that each market is enriched by dozens of special bets on the side.

The bettor, in addition to the ability to bet on the market winner, has a number of additional options for betting. For example, such may be:

Under / over bets

In this bet the bookmaker “sets a line” and the player bets if the market (the match) ends up with a greater or a lesser result on the specific line.

The most common bet is the over / under 2.5 goals in football. Meaning if there are one, two or no goals in the match, the winning market is the “under 2.5”. If they score three goals or more, the winning market is the “over 2.5”.

We find such bets in all sports (e.g. volleyball sets) but also especially on players (e.g. basketball player points).

Handicap bets

Like under / over betting, roughly the same logic applies to how handicap betting works. The fundamental difference is that the handicap is about one team and not the match.

For example, betting on a one-goal handicap for Team A, that team must win by two or more goals to win that bet.

Bets on specific market periods

Special bets can be placed even at certain periods of a market. Such could be the halftime of a football / basketball match, a set in volleyball or a round in Formula One.

In the most commercial events, the sports betting companies offer markets even for shorter periods during the match. Like betting on specific ten-minute segments of a football match.

Betting on the performance of specific players

Player / Athlete markets is another interesting category of special bets. Year by year, the number of bettors looking for opportunities in such markets is increasing, which, although they may be particularly lucrative, require great knowledge of the market.

Such markets can be the statistical performance of basketball players (points, rebounds, assists, etc.) or a player scoring a goal.

Combined bets (combo bets)

One category that is constantly gaining new players is combination betting. Especially since the bookmakers themselves have created tools through which bettors can combine options in the same market to benefit from greater overall odds.

Simple combo bets consist of a winning option along with an under / over bet. For example, a home win with over 1.5 goals scored in the match, while the more intricate combo bets are limited only by the bettor’s imagination. Special markets, statistics, players, etc., in an explosive combination, can create a “fun bet” with incredibly high odds.

What are long-term bets?

Long-term bets primarily require patience. These are options in which you bet your money and wait a long time until you find out if you won or not. After all, the term itself says it, a long-term bet takes a lot of time to reveal if you win or lose.

The most popular long-term bets are those involving events that last a few weeks, such as World Cups or the Olympics. Less popular, but with their own hardcore players, are those of annual events (e.g. National Championships).

Long-term bets can be about the winner of an event (or relegation to a league) or other elements of it, such as the course of a team / athlete or the elimination round.

Ways to bet

Single market bets are preferred by professional bettors. High-odds hunters tend to choose system bets. Finally, parlay bets are the favorite bets of those who with little money chase their dreams for big profits.

Non-sports betting (politics, entertainment, etc.)

Sports dominate but do not monopolize the betting markets. The desire of the bookmakers to reach their product to other target groups of potential bettors, has led them to create special markets on various popular political or entertainment events.

Bets on election campaigns, as well as events such as the Oscars or the Eurovision Song Contest, are quite common.

What is R.O.I.

The R.O.I. in a bet shows the Return On Investment, hence the acronym.

What does this mean in layman’s terms? The percentage of profit (or loss) we have in relation to the money we have bet.

The formula for calculating the ratio R.O.I. is as follows:

  • ((Winnings + Bets) / Total Bets)) X100
  • For every value over 100 there is a profit
  • For any value below 100 there is a loss
