A US federal investigation is currently underway to determine whether Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier engaged in sports betting-related misconduct while playing for the Charlotte Hornets.
According to The Wall Street Journal, authorities are focusing on a specific game between the Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans on March 23, 2023, after detecting irregular betting patterns.

The inquiry is reportedly connected to the same investigation that led to former Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter receiving a lifetime ban from the NBA.
Porter now faces criminal charges alongside five other individuals allegedly involved in a betting scheme. The most recent arrest in connection to this case took place earlier this month.
In the game under scrutiny, Rozier played for just over nine minutes—significantly lower than his season average of 35 minutes per game. He also exited early due to a foot injury and missed the subsequent eight games.
Betting integrity monitors flagged a surge in wagers on Rozier to underperform, prompting some sportsbooks to suspend bets on him.

With sports betting now legal in multiple states, millions of Americans have access to a wide range of wagering options. While many bets focus on overall team performance, prop bets—such as those predicting a player’s statistics or potential underperformance—have surged in popularity.
NBA spokesperson Mike Bass confirmed that the league was alerted to unusual betting activity linked to Rozier’s March 2023 performance. The NBA conducted its own internal review but found no evidence of wrongdoing.
However, Bass acknowledged the ongoing federal investigation led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York and assured the league would fully cooperate with authorities.
As of now, Rozier has not been charged with any offences.
