Mbappé’s “Blood Pact” Makes Him a Solid Bet for UCL & La Liga Golden Boot

Mbappé’s “Blood Pact” Makes Him a Solid Bet for UCL & La Liga Golden Boot

After a slow start to life at Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé has well and truly found his feet. His recent performances have not only justified the hype surrounding his summer arrival but also made him a fantastic bet to finish the season as the top scorer in both the Champions League and La Liga.

It’s fair to say the 26-year-old initially underwhelmed, prompting even seasoned experts to question whether he’d live up to expectations at the Bernabeu, especially given that Los Blancos already had Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, two players who, like Mbappé, thrive off the left.

But a period of adaptation was always to be expected. A player of Mbappé’s quality was never going to stay quiet for long, and after a slow start, he’s finally hitting the heights anticipated.

His hat-trick in the second leg of the Champions League play-off tie against Manchester City was proof of that.

That treble was his second hat-trick for Los Blancos this season, taking his tally to 27 goals in 41 games across all competitions.

Mbappe’s Determination to Make History

Aware of his unsteady start but now firmly in his groove, the Les Bleus captain has no intention of letting up but hopes his goals will propel Real to major trophies this season.

“I didn’t come here to play badly,” he said after his masterclass against City.

“Fulfilling my dream is one thing, but I want to play well, mark an era, and make history at Real Madrid. I knew I had to show more personality—my adaptation period is over, and now I have to prove my quality.

“I have no limit. If I can score 50 goals, I will. Even more. But the most important thing is to win titles because, in my career, I’ve scored a lot of goals, yet I haven’t won many big trophies. If I score a lot and we win titles, I’d sign for that with my blood.”

Mbappé, who has now scored 18 goals in his last 18 games, has been true to his word so far.

He is the only Real player to have scored in all three of their finals this season, scoring in the UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta, the Club World Cup final win against Pachuca, and opening the scoring in the Spanish Super Cup final, though Real ultimately fell 5-2 to Barcelona.

La Liga Title Race and the Golden Boot Battle

Mbappe has more chances to win major silverware this season, including La Liga, where reigning champions Real trail Barcelona by three points with 12 matches left.

If Los Blancos are to leapfrog their arch-rivals—and fend off Atletico, who sit just a point behind the leaders—Mbappé will need to live up to his blood pact. He may even have to outscore every other player in the league.

The Frenchman currently boasts 17 goals in 24 La Liga appearances, a tally bettered only by Barca’s veteran hitman Robert Lewandowski, who leads the charts with 21.

At this stage, it’s looking increasingly like a two-horse race for the Golden Boot.

Lewandowski is currently the bookies’ favourite at 1.36 odds on Bet9ja, which makes sense given his four-goal cushion and Barcelona’s attacking style.

But with Mbappe having scored 14 goals this calendar year, his 3.25 odds to finish as La Liga’s top scorer look like serious value. If he keeps closing the gap, those odds will only shorten.

Either way, both men will have a huge say in their teams’ title hopes. Their personal battle for the Golden Boot also adds an intriguing subplot to the title race, which could be decided in the final El Clasico of the season on May 11.

Mbappé to Be 24/25 UCL Top Scorer?

Mbappé is also a fantastic bet to finish as this season’s UCL top scorer, and his 6.00 odds on Bet9ja look like excellent value right now.

The Los Blancos forward has seven goals in 10 UCL matches this season, putting him level with teammate Vinícius and eighth on the all-time Champions League goalscorers list (excluding qualifiers).

Like in La Liga, his biggest competition for the UCL Golden Boot will likely be Barcelona forward Lewandowski (3.05 odds), who has nine goals.

There’s also Dortmund’s Sehrou Guirassy (5.00 odds). who currently leads with 10 goals and Bayern’s Harry Kane (7.25 odds) also has seven goals.

However, with the bookies backing Real and Barça as the top two favourites to win this season’s UCL, both Spanish giants have a far stronger chance of making a deep run than either German team.

Real wouldn’t even still be in the competition if not for Mbappé, who scored four goals across both legs against Manchester City.

On paper, Real have a tough schedule, with city rivals Atlético next in the last-16 and a possible quarterfinal against Arsenal looming. But given Mbappé’s current form, Los Blancos will fancy their chances against either side.

Real have knocked out Atlético every time they’ve met in the UCL knockout stages, so they’ll be especially confident. Mbappé himself will be even more motivated—not only did he wish for this matchup, but he also scored Real’s only goal in their 1-1 draw against Atlético in La Liga on February 8.

“For me, [playing Atlético in the round of 16] is better because this way, we don’t travel. Both are difficult, so it’s better to play one close to home so we don’t have to travel,” noted Mbappé, who now has 55 goals in 83 UCL appearances.
