2 Goals Ahead? You've Already Won!Arsenal vs Bayern Munich
Arsenal return to the Champions League quarter-finals, facing a familiar foe – Bayern Munich. The Gunners have historically struggled against the German giants, but this time, the situation feels different.
Bayern are now a shadow of their former dominant self. The latest in a long string of underwhelming performances this season saw them give up a two-goal lead to lose at lowly Heidenheim on Saturday. As a result, they’re now 16 points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, and they won’t win the Bundesliga for the first time in over a decade. This makes the Champions League their only realistic chance of silverware this season. However, bookmakers don’t favour them, with Arsenal considered the favourites to win the first leg and the tie over two legs.
While Arsenal might have approached this fixture with trepidation in the past, they will be very confident this time. The Gunners boast the best defensive record in all of Europe in 2024, haven’t conceded in a Champions League home game this season and are unbeaten in seven games heading into this tie. Additionally, they’ll enjoy home advantage with a packed Emirates Stadium behind them, as Bayern supporters are banned for crowd trouble.
Arsenal vs Bayern MunichHarry Kane Factor
However, the Gunners will be wary of Harry Kane, who returns to North London for the first time since leaving Tottenham last summer. Kane has a phenomenal scoring record against the Gunners, having struck 14 goals in 17 Premier League games in North London derbies. While his first season in Germany might ultimately prove a failure if they fall at this stage, the Englishman has done well on a personal level, hitting a career-best 32 league goals so far. In this first leg in London, taking Kane as an anytime goalscorer (2.75 odds) would be wise, considering his remarkable scoring record against Arsenal.

This tie is now a staple in the knock-out rounds, with both sides having met in the semi-finals in the past two seasons. Both sides are tied in terms of progression, with City winning 5-1 on aggregate last year – including an emphatic 4-0 win at the Etihad.
However, Real Madrid won in 2021-22 when Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a remarkable collapse in the second leg at The Bernabeu. Real tied a 5-3 aggregate deficit with two late goals from Rodrygo. Karim Benzema then sealed the win with a penalty in extra time, sending Real on their way to the Champions League title.
While Real will hope for a little less drama on Tuesday, the odds show this to be an evenly balanced matchup. Defending champions City are slight favourites to win both the first leg and the tie. However, Los Blancos have a good record against City in Madrid, winning three of the five meetings there. Additionally, they have the advantage of being well-rested after not playing at the weekend. Record four-time Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti is also set to make history by becoming the first manager to reach 200 matches in the competition. Real will want to mark the occasion with a win.
For City, the added pressure of defending the title for the first time might weigh heavily. They will also be without Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake for the trip to Spain. Top scorer Erling Haaland has also dipped in form recently.
However, City can find hope in Phil Foden. With 21 goal contributions in the Premier League and 4 goals and two assists in the Champions League, Foden could prove decisive in this tie.
Real Madrid vs Manchester CityAtlético Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund
This Champions League quarter-final clash between Atlético Madrid and Borussia Dortmund guarantees a surprise team in the semi-finals. Bookmakers favour Atlético, bidding for a first final four appearance since 2016/17.
While their domestic form is shaky, Atlético have been strong in Europe. They’ve won five out of eight Champions League games this season(D2, L1) and haven’t lost a single UCL home knock-out match under manager Diego Simeone (W10, D6). Remarkably, they kept clean sheets in 12 of those games!
Atlético will be confident heading into Wednesday’s first leg. They beat Dortmund when they met in the 2018/19 group stage, and they have a fantastic record against German teams at home, with no losses in 12 European matches (W8, D4).
These aren’t the only impressive stats for Atlético. A win here would make Simeone just the ninth coach ever with 50 Champions League victories!
Atlético Madrid vs Borussia DortmundPSG vs Barcelona
The question surrounding PSG has been whether Kylian Mbappe can lead them to their first-ever Champions League title, especially considering the widespread belief this will be his final season at the club. While Luis Enrique’s side aren’t the overall favourites to lift the title, bookmakers favour them to beat his former side in this first leg quarter-final clash and to win the tie outright.
Mbappe, undoubtedly, will be central to PSG’s hopes. He boasts a remarkable record against Barcelona, with four goals in this fixture, including a hat-trick in PSG’s 4-1 victory at Camp Nou in 2021. That made him the first visiting player since Andriy Shevchenko for Dynamo Kyiv in 1997 to achieve such a feat. In fact, betting on Mbappe to score anytime on Wednesday (1.75 odds on Betano) will be wise.
However, PSG have a chequered history against Barcelona in the Champions League. Their 4-1 win in 2021 was only their second over the Catalans in six such encounters and their first since the 4-0 home win in the round of 16 in 2017.
What followed that 2017 win was the infamous La Remontada. Barcelona, under the very same Enrique, staged a historic comeback, winning 6-1 at home to become the first team to overturn a 4+ goal deficit in a two-legged Champions League tie. This experience could ironically prove an advantage for PSG, as Enrique might possess the inside knowledge to guide them past their nemesis and back to the semi-finals for the first time since 2021.
Despite the potential edge Enrique offers, history suggests this Champions League quarter-final tie could be an upset. Barcelona have eliminated PSG in three of their last four Champions League knock-out encounters.
