The UEFA Champions League delivers a blockbuster as Manchester City face holders and record winners Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday in the standout fixture of the knockout play-off round.

City remain unpredictable this season, struggling against both the high and lowly, and Guardiola will be counting on his trusted lieutenants to step up here ahead of the return leg in Spain.
For that to happen, though, Erling Haaland must shake off his struggles against Real Madrid. Despite being one of Europe’s most lethal strikers, the Norwegian has failed to score in four UCL appearances against Los Blancos, managing 13 shots in 359 minutes without finding the net.
Fortunately for City, Kevin De Bruyne has no such issues and could once again prove decisive. The Belgian has haunted Madrid with four goals and four assists in eight UCL encounters against them.
City’s biggest concern will be containing Real’s formidable attack, having conceded 14 goals in their last five UCL matches.
However, that may prove a tall order against a Real frontline with Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, and Kylian Mbappé.
